On Friday, October 26, 2018 at the University of Missouri in Columbia, Dr. Juergen Bertram hung up his stethoscope and entered into his eternal rest.

He was born on March 5, 1945 to Hanno and Liselotte Bertram in Austria. He was raised in Nuremberg, Germany. After receiving his medical degree he moved to the United States. He did an oncology/hematology fellowship at John Hopkins University and devoted the rest of his life to the treatment of cancer patients. He was a professor of medicine at the University of Southern California Los Angeles. He started the North Idaho Cancer Center in Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho and was the medical director for many years. He also practiced in Louisville, KY, Poplar Bluff, MO, Kennett, MO, Lewiston, ME, and Jefferson City, MO. In 2001 he became a United States citizen. In 2010 Dr. Bertram started a new career as a Locums Tenum physician, traveling to oncology practices across the United States. He worked in Vermont, Oregon, California, Washington, North and South Dakota and Idaho. He finished his last assignment in July 2018.

On November 14, 2003 he married his wife, Phyllis, in Las Vegas, Nevada. She survives of the home in Jefferson City, MO.

He is also survived by one sister, Lotte Erwin and one brother, Hanno Bertram both of Germany. One niece, Birigite Erwin and one nephew, Hulger Erwin both of Germany. Two daughters by marriage, Becca (Justin) Beaird of Harviell, MO and Pam (Travis) Willis of Ellsinore, MO; four grandchildren, Jordan and Anna Willis of Ellsinore, MO and Colby and Nora Beaird of Harviell, MO; and his mother-in-law, Nora Ellen Morris of West Plains, MO.

He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother-in-law Deitmer Erwin.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 1, 2018 from 6-8:00 p.m. at Moore Funeral Service in Poplar Bluff.
Graveside service will be on Friday, November 2, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Poplar Bluff with Pastor Scott Reynolds officiating.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to UCAN-United Cancer Assistance Network in Poplar Bluff, MO. This was one of Dr. Bertram’s favorite organizations to support cancer patients when he practiced in Poplar Bluff.
