Very sorry for your loss, Gene was a great man. Our deepest condolences to your family. Wish we could have made it to the funeral, but I couldn't get out of a meeting in time.

I got to know Gene and Glenda through my brother, Don Walker, of Poplar Bluff. When Don became terminally ill with cancer, there was no better, steadfast friend than Gene. He stuck with him until the end and my brother told me that "I've got a lot of good friends, but there's nobody like Woody." I let Gene know what he said there In the hospital here in Memphis. He had a big heart for my brother--that's the Gene I came to know. And his wife Glenda was there, too. I hope he didn't suffer too much as I watched my brother Don suffer terribly for six weeks here in Memphis, as I was there at the hospital every day with him. I hope they get to enjoy each other in heaven. (And yes, Gene did have a bit of a temper; I should know as I had one too! Not so much anymore as I'm too old for that and life is easier on me for sure.)

My family became neighbors in Glasgow, Kentucky in 1967. I always had a great respect for Gene in many ways, what you saw and heard from him was top drawer. Charlene and I you and your family. Jake.
