Dathel Webber, 94, of Poplar Bluff, passed away at her residence on Thursday, September 20, 2018.

A loving and kind yet strong and resilient person, Dathel (Boyd) Webber will be remembered for her gentle compassionate spirit. She always wanted to keep the peace. When people struggled to pronounce her name she’d say: “Call me Dixie.”

Her family brought great joy—each generation getting more adoration than the one before. Nothing brought a sparkle to her eyes or a smile to her face more than when children came around.

She honored her history by telling many stories of growing up in rural Clay County, AR in the 1920s and 1930s. Dathel was a good storyteller who kept the old tales alive and added new ones as they unfolded over the years.

Dathel spent more than 20 years in retail sales at Newberry’s and Ann’s Levi Barn plus another few decades farming. She loved to work and always kept her surroundings neat, clean, and pretty. Even into her 80s she mowed her own grass.

Survivors include two daughters Ann Miller of Poplar Bluff, MO and Gail Webber of Mountain View, CA, sister Hannah (Bob) King of Florissant, MO; seven grandchildren Julie (Mike) Rush of Marble Hill, MO, Jill (Clete) Miller-Worley of Dexter, MO, Mike (Rosie) Wasser of Fresno, CA, John Paul (Jennifer) Webber of Memphis, TN, Keith (Kim) Webber of Owasso, OK, Paul David and William of Jackson, MO; 11 great-grandchildren Elizabeth and Kennedy Rush; Katy, Kelly, Jack, Boyd and Lauren Webber; Jase, Jentri, Cy, and Febe Worley. Dozens of nieces and nephews and many friends will also miss her presence in this world.

She was preceded in death by husband Paul, Sr., sons Keith Boyd and Paul, Jr., son-in-law Jack Miller, daughter-in-law Jennifer Webber, parents David and Inez Boyd, siblings Novell Moore, Doyn Boyd, Del Boyd, and three infants named Terry, Peggy, and Perry.

Dathel was a member of the Highland Drive Church of Christ.

Visitation will be on Sunday, September 23, 2018 from 1-3:00 p.m. at Moore Funeral Service in Poplar Bluff.
Funeral services will be held immediately following visitation at 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel.
Graveside services will be Monday at 10:00 a.m. at the Poplar Bluff City Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Dathel’s name to the Coach Webber Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o Moore Funeral Service, 1100 Iron Bridge Rd Poplar Bluff, MO 63901, Children’s Homes, Inc., 5515 Walcott Road, Paragould, AR 72450, or to the donor’s favorite charity.
